New York Fashion Week

Tomorrow starts New York Fashion Week in fashion capital, NYC.  Designers will be showcasing their Fall/Winter 2014 Collections on runways all over the city.  Personally, I have always found fashion week to be rather intimidating and sometimes confusing.  So here are five ways to help you navigate one of the most celebrated weeks in fashion.

1. Know the Schedule
Preparation is key when it comes to trying to navigate anything.  The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has a list of designers here.  You can also see a full, rather long list here.  The shows begin at 9am and run all day at all different locations until 9 pm.  I am excited to catch Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg and Zac Posen to name a few.

2. Catch Some Live Streaming
For the past few years designers have been allowing their shows to be streamed through digital devices.  This goes hand in hand with several social media campaigns to create a conversation with the average customer and these elite brands.  You can live stream shows on the MB Fashion Week page, or Style.com or NewYorkFashionWeekLive.com.

3. Social Media
Fashion editors, stylists, designers and assistants will be glued to their phones documenting the collections and other details about the show.  Follow them to keep up with the latest news.  Find the conversation with #MBFW or #NYFW through Twitter and Instagram.  Look out for accounts by magazine editors, like from InStyle or Vogue.

4. Women's Wear Daily
This trade magazine is chock full of Fashion Week content.  Articles, photos, videos & live streaming.  All under one source and its easy to find.  Stay up to date surfing the site here, or follow them on Twitter, @WomensWearDaily

5. Marist College and Betsey Johnson
I am so thrilled to fill you all in on the exciting opportunity the Fashion Program, at my school, is currently partaking in.  Betsey Johnson is known for her crazy, pop art wonderful creations and runway cartwheels.  At 69, Johnson is still showing at Fashion Week.  This year, on February 12th, Marist is hosting a reprise showing of Johnson's Fall 2014 collection and will then present her, at a special reception, with the Marist College Silver Needle Icon Award.  The even is taking place in the Salon at Lincoln Center and will include current students, alumni and even prospective students.  Interested in learning more, check out the Marist XOX Betsey page, and follow the account on Twitter.

Happy Fashion Week!
